Exeter will be hosting a series of events throughout February to mark Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month.
The Devon Record Office is working together with The Intercom Trust and the University of Exeter with support from the MLA Museums Libraries and Archives, to host the events, which begin with a drop-in session at Cowick Street, in Exeter, on February 2, from 10am-4pm.
Devon county councillor for culture, Sheila Hobden, said: "Because lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people can be, have to be, or are made invisible, theirs are a secret history. "Devon County Council will be playing a part in ensuring this history is now documented."
Everyone is invited to the various events in February: - 5th - Bend it like Beckford. BOXES NIGHT CLUB. Fancy dress party night. Come as your favioate gay character.
- 9th - LGBT Hidden Histories. Sue Sanders Co-chair LGBT History Month will talk about the importance and benefits of getting involved in LGBT History Month. Exeter central library 11am-2pm with refreshments.
- 9th - LGBT History Month on the Road. Guildhall shopping centre Exeter all day.
- 23rd - Workshop with guest speaker. The Real McCoys Café Exeter 6pm-8pm
- 27th ‘Not offensively gay’ Seminar; Nick Givens and Dr David Nixon. Queens Building University of Exeter 4pm
